Mahfuz Anam James, the acclaimed ‘Guru’ of Bangladesh’s music scene and a renowned urban Baul singer, became a father four months ago. However, he had kept the news private until recently. In a recent interview, James himself revealed both the birth of his child and details about his new marriage.
It is reported that in 2024, James married Namia Amin, a Bangladeshi-American citizen. After the marriage, she changed her name to Namia Anam. Their first child was born in June this year at a hospital in the United States and has been named Zibran Anam.
Speaking about becoming a father, James said, “The feeling of becoming a father is extraordinary, beyond words. I thank Allah for blessing me with a healthy child. I hope everyone will pray for the mother and the baby.”
Namia was born in the United States and completed her graduation in Criminal Justice from John Jay College. James met Namia in June 2023 at an event in Los Angeles. After a year of acquaintance, they got married on June 12, 2024, in Dhaka in the presence of their families. Later, Zibran Anam was born on June 8, 2025, at Huntington Hospital in New York, with James and other family members present.
James’ first wife was film actress Rathi. They married in 1991 and divorced in 2003. His second marriage was with Benjir Sajjad in 2000, which later took place in the United States. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2014. James has a son and a daughter from his first marriage, and a daughter from his second marriage.
